Data Catalog Launch
Planning
A searchable inventory of data sets, owners, and definitions for staff.

Overview
The Data Catalog will give staff one searchable place to find the data sets the church maintains, what each one contains, who owns it, and how to request access. It builds on the Church Data Standards work, so the definitions in the catalog are the agreed ones.
The Data Governance team is planning the catalog with the teams that own the largest data sets first, so the launch covers the sources people ask about most.
What the project delivers
A searchable inventory: every registered data set with a plain-language description and its owner.
Definitions in context: field definitions from the data standards shown next to the data they describe.
Access requests: a clear path to ask for access, routed to the owner.
Timeline
Scope: choose the first data sets and the catalog platform. In progress.
Register: owners describe their data sets and confirm definitions. Planned.
Launch: open the catalog to staff with guidance on how to use it. Planned.
Grow: add the remaining data sets and keep entries current through owner reviews. Planned.
